‘What, like it’s hard?’ Lower Merion Players complete successful run of ‘Legally Blonde’
“Whoever said orange is the new pink was seriously disturbed,” Elle Woods is famous for saying in “Legally Blonde” And this past week, the student actors in Lower Merion School District proved just how right she was.
The LM Players recently took the stage with a “high-energy, crowd-pleasing run of Legally Blonde,” which they performed Nov. 20 to 23 in the Lower Merion High School auditorium.
“The production brought Elle Woods’ journey from sorority life to Harvard Law to life with humor, heart and impressive musical performances,” said a recent release from the district. “Audiences followed Elle’s determination—along with a colorful ensemble of friends, classmates, and rivals—through big dance numbers, sharp comedy and uplifting themes of self-confidence and staying true to oneself.”
With multiple successful performances, leaders in the school district were proud of the students’ hard work.
“The cast and crew delivered a polished, spirited show that kept the crowd cheering throughout the weekend,” said the release.
The LM Players are nothing new to the district.
“The extracurricular activity known as Lower Merion Players has existed since its 1965 origin as a student-run organization, providing a safe, artistic, and enjoyable educational environment in which students can explore features of all types of theatrical productions, including reading and selection of plays and musicals, elements of scenic, costume and lighting design, direction and stage management,” said the organization’s website.
Players works thanks to the volunteer efforts of students and adult advisors alike.
“Players strives to maintain its status as a student-run organization, with oversight by LMSD staff and artistic guidance from professionals from the Greater Philadelphia area theatre community, and with a board of student officers elected by their peers that participates fully and directly in making decisions that guide the organization,” said the site.
