LMSD’s Global Citizens brighten the holidays for area families
Global Citizenship students at Lower Merion High School recently partnered with the TGR Foundation at the Cobbs Creek Community Center to help make Thanksgiving a little brighter for local families. Together, they collected monetary donations and essential dinner items to support 129 families served by the Foundation across West Philadelphia.
In total, students raised $1,550 and donated hundreds of Thanksgiving food items, creating a generous and meaningful holiday collection. During the distribution event on Saturday, Nov. 22 at Cobbs Creek, families selected from 16 different items, while turkeys were delivered directly to their homes. Donation funds covered the cost of turkeys, fresh fruits and vegetables to ensure every family could prepare a full Thanksgiving meal.
Guests made their way from table to table filling tote bags, each one topped with a handmade Thanksgiving card filled with warm holiday wishes from LMHS Global Citizenship students.
The Global Citizenship course uses a student-centered approach that encourages learners to grow as global citizens and forces for good by blending classroom instruction with hands-on service experiences.
