Students have two days remaining to enter county-wide poetry contest

If you consider yourself a poet, it may be time to dust off the collection. Or if you are a procrastinator that loves to push a deadline, the clock is ticking. The 37th annual Young Poets of Delaware County Poetry Contest is nearing its close.

Submissions for the contest, which is run through the county’s libraries, are due on April 17. According to its website, the contest is open to those in grades first through 12th who live or attend school in Delco.

“Original poems must be typed on 8.5×11-inch paper,” said the library’s site. “Only one, new, original poem per student” may be submitted. Poems should be no longer than a single page. Those submitted online must be a Microsoft Word document file.

The library’s site noted that poems that have previously won awards may not be submitted. Submissions should have a student’s name, phone number, address, parent email (no school emails), grade, and school listed at the top, right corner of the document. Information is not shared, and only used to contact winners, the library’s site stated.

Winning poems will be published in the library system’s annual poetry anthology, as well as on the Mad Poet’s website.

Submissions can be added via the online form here. If you have any questions about your submission, please email Cheri Crow at [email protected]
