The Radnor Township Environmental Advisory Council (EAC) works to keep the green goals of the community at the forefront of residents’ and municipal officials’ minds. And while Earth Day’s festivities are winding down with April’s close, the mission remains.

To that end, the EAC will offer all Radnor Township residents a chance to include more native plants on their own property with its Giveaway event this Saturday. Slated for May 2, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., the EAC will provide free plants to those interested.

While registration is required to obtain plants, it is free to do so online here. Participants will receive “a collection of about 10 native perennial wildflowers that support insects and birds,” said the EAC’s event page. The organization said that the collection includes a “mix of Rudbeckia fulgida v. deamii, Penstemon calycosus, Echinacea purpurea ‘Magnus’, and Schizachyrium scoparium ‘Sandhill’ PPAF.”

While residents cannot select their own plants, all will receive the same collection and varieties. The EAC representatives said that it does not require too much space to be healthy and thrive.

“One sunny square yard should be enough,” said the event page.

Pick-up will be held Saturday at the Radnor Township Building, 301 Iven Ave., in Wayne. Guests can utilize the circular entrance to the building.

“Please stay in your car and drive up to the circle,” said the registration page’s instructions. “You will get the plants without a need to get out of the car. There is no need to park and walk up to the building.”

Participants are limited to two sets per household to ensure all that are interested are able to enjoy the giveaway. The EAC also can’t wait to see your results.

“Please do [submit pictures of plantings] to help us keep track of the engagement of our township gardeners!” said the site. “Send pictures of your plantings to [email protected].”
