Soccer camp, juniors’ program bring ‘World Cup’ to Radnor fields

While the FIFA World Cup is bringing legions of soccer fans to Philadelphia this summer, local soccer stars in training have two opportunities to experience their own “World Cup.”

In partnership with Radnor Township Recreation, the World Cup Sports Academy will offer a spring break soccer camp from March 30 to April 3 for ages 6-14 and a spring juniors’ soccer program every Wednesday from April 4 through May 20 for ages 3-5.

The spring break summer camp is billed as “the perfect way for players to prepare for tryouts or just have a great time playing the beautiful game.” Taking place from 9 a.m. to noon at Radnor Memorial Field, the camp is $275. Athletes will have a chance to practice ball control, moves and tactical awareness wile testing their new skills in several one-sided games.

The juniors’ soccer program will also be held at Radnor Field and takes place from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. As it is geared toward younger children, the program will focus on having fun and building confidence with the soccer ball. Through games like wizard tag, space robots and bank robbers, participants will learn coordination and the basic principles of dribbling, passing and shooting the ball. The fee for the program is $195.
