Haveford police arrest two who’d stolen from the same Giant twice that week, police say

One homeless man and another from Philadelphia are both facing felony charges for retail theft after the Haverford Township Police responded to a call at the Giant Food Store within the township, according to police.

On Nov. 5 around 8:05 p.m., police were called to the Giant Food Store at 116 W. Township Line Road, in Havertown Township, for the report of a theft in progress. Upon arrival, police said that they encountered two, white male actors still at the scene in the process of placing merchandise into reusable bags. At the store, police said they also spoke with the manager who had noted the same two white males had also stolen products from the store on Nov. 2.

Police said they spoke with the two men, asking for each person’s name and date of birth. Upon checking the duo’s backgrounds, police said that one man had an active bench warrant. The two men were the same, store managers reported, who had also stolen goods on the prior date. Police said the two were wearing the same clothing both days, robbing the same store.

According to police, the Giant store’s manager was able to provide an itemized receipt for goods stolen on Nov. 5 totalling $224.24. However, the previous incident report included an itemized receipt for $2,322.29. In total, $2,546.53 was removed from the store, police said.

Mikeal Steinberg, 33, currently listed as homeless, was taken into custody by the Haverford police. He is charged with four counts of felony retail theft by the taking of merchandise. Police also confirmed his active bench warrant out of Philadelphia

Cory Alexander Fischer, 42, of the 2900 block of Kennsington Avenue in Philadelphia will face three felony retail theft charges. He is held in county jail, unable to post a $75,000 unsecured bail.

Steinberg is also held in the county jail unable to post bail. He is held on a set bail amount of $50,000. Both men are scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Jan. 14 at 10 a.m. before Magisterial District Judge Elysia Mancini Duerr.

All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using public court records.
