Lower Merion Fall Clean-Up Weekend returns; What residents should know about new $20 fee
Township residents can dispose of household items and recyclables during the two-day event at the Koegel Public Works Complex in Penn Valley.
Lower Merion Township residents looking to clear out unwanted items from their homes, garages and basements will have an opportunity this weekend during the township’s annual Fall Clean-Up Weekend.
The event will be held Saturday, Oct. 3, and Sunday, Oct. 4, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the township’s Transfer Station at the Koegel Public Works Complex, 1300 N. Woodbine Ave. in Penn Valley.
One significant change residents should be aware of this year is a $20 fee per vehicle entry, which Lower Merion implemented for its 2026 clean-up weekends. Payment will be collected at the gate, and participants must provide proof of Lower Merion Township residency.
Residents can use the weekend to dispose of a variety of household materials, including appliances and general household trash. Recycling opportunities will also be available for items including plastics, glass, newspapers, mixed paper and textiles. The township asks that recyclable materials be separated from regular trash.
The weekend isn’t limited to throwing things away.
Nonprofit organizations are expected to be on site to collect certain items that can be reused. The Harmonious Volunteer Center is scheduled to accept usable furniture, toys and clothing, while Neighborhood Bike Works will collect bicycles.
Some items won’t be accepted
Residents should check what they’re bringing before heading to the complex.
Lower Merion says electronics and household hazardous waste will not be accepted during Fall Clean-Up Weekend. That includes materials such as motor oil, antifreeze, pesticides, turpentine, certain cleaning products and pool chemicals.
Residents will have separate opportunities to get rid of some of those materials shortly afterward. An electronics recycling event is scheduled for Oct. 10, followed by a Montgomery County household hazardous waste collection on Oct. 11.
Fall Clean-Up Weekend is one of the township’s designated opportunities for residents to bring larger quantities of unwanted household materials to the Public Works complex rather than placing them out through normal collection.
The event is restricted to Lower Merion Township residents.
