Lower Merion, Narberth want residents to weigh in on Montgomery Avenue safety plan

Lower Merion Township and Narberth Borough want residents to weigh in on an action plan that they’ve developed to eliminate traffic fatalities and improve safety along a key stretch of Montgomery Avenue.

Officials presented their Montgomery Avenue Corridor Safety Action Plan on Feb. 3, outlining how they analyzed crash data, engaged the community, and coordinated with regional partners to set a “Vision Zero” goal of reducing roadway deaths and serious injuries by 50% by 2030.

The safety action plan includes targeted infrastructure projects, policy updates and safety initiatives that are rooted in what officials call the “Safe System Approach,” which prioritizes safer roads, safer speeds, safer vehicles, safer road users and improved post-crash care.

“This joint effort between Lower Merion Township and Narberth Borough is federally funded through the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) Grant Program, which awarded $340,540 to study a seven-mile corridor of Montgomery Avenue, from Spring Mill Road to City Avenue,” according to Narberth Borough.

Residents are now being asked to participate by sharing their experiences and concerns through a survey. Responses are due by Feb. 24, and residents can either print and fill out a paper survey or participate in the online survey. The former can be dropped off at the township manager’s office or mailed to Brandon Ford, Assistant Township Manager, Township of Lower Merion, 75 E. Lancaster Ave, Ardmore, PA 19003.

After the community survey is completed, another public engagement meeting will be scheduled to review the proposed implementation strategies.
